At Swindon Music Service, our passionate team of music educators brings together decades of experience, expertise across dozens of instruments, and a shared belief in the transformative power of music education.

From early years music-making to advanced ensemble performance, our teachers are dedicated professionals who inspire young musicians across Swindon every day. Whether teaching in schools, leading ensembles, or providing one-to-one tuition, each member of our team combines musical excellence with a genuine commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians.

CEO & Artistic Director

Major (Retd) Peter Clark MMus, ARCM, PGDip(Mgt), MCMI CEO and Artistic Director

Peter has led Swindon Music Service as CEO and Artistic Director since 2005, combining musical excellence with strategic vision to shape music education across the borough. With an MMus and ARCM alongside postgraduate qualifications in management, he brings both artistic insight and strong leadership to the role.

Beyond Swindon, Peter has played a significant role in shaping music education nationally, serving on the Arts Council England National Board for Music Hubs and contributing to the National Data Team. His expertise and commitment have helped influence policy and best practice across the country’s music education landscape.

Peter’s background in military music leadership has instilled values of discipline, excellence, and teamwork that underpin the service’s approach. Under his direction, Swindon Music Service has grown into a thriving hub that makes music accessible and inspiring for young people across the community.

Deputy Head of Service & School Liaison Manager

Lynn Hawkins MA Ed, PGDip, PGCE, BA Hons, BSc, MCMI Deputy Head of Service, Singing Lead & Early Years Music Specialist

Lynn plays a vital role in Swindon Music Service as Deputy Head of Service, bringing particular expertise in vocal education and early years music development. With an MA in Education alongside her PGCE and Chartered Manager status (MCMI), she combines deep pedagogical knowledge with strong leadership and management capabilities.

As Singing Lead, Lynn oversees our schools singing programme, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to find their voice and experience the joy of singing together. Her specialist knowledge in early years music helps lay the foundations for lifelong musical engagement, working with our youngest learners to develop musicality, confidence, and creativity from the very start of their educational journey.

Lynn’s leadership supports the day-to-day operations of the service while maintaining a strong focus on inclusive, high-quality music-making that reaches children across all ages and stages.
